PCMCIA INTERFACE
STEC PCMCIA Interface for ATA PC Card Products
The PCMCIA I/O interface, developed more than 10 years ago and initially used for memory cards, defines a standard 68-pin connector and comes in a Type 1, 2, and 3 format (varying thicknesses), though Type 2 is the most prevalent. Since then, the PCMCIA 16-bit interface has been improved with a 32-bit CardBus interface designed to meet the demands of multimedia and other high-bandwidth applications. The latest development is the ExpressCard (www.expresscard.org) interface, which increases the I/O performance by supporting both the PCI Express and USB 2.0 standard.
